Install QEMU tools:

sudo apt-get install qemu-kvm

Load the network block device (nbd) module:

sudo modprobe nbd

Run qemu-nbd, which is a user space loopback block device server for QEMU-supported disk images.

qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd0 vdi-file

where vdi-file is your vdi file location.

Example:

qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd0 /home/user/image.vdi

Check the partitions in the image:

sudo fdisk -l /dev/nbd0

Mount the first partition:

sudo mount /dev/nbd0p1 /mntsudo qemu-nbd -d /dev/nbd0

Shutdown nbd services:

sudo qemu-nbd -d /dev/nbd0
